THE STUDENT'S HANDBOOK

Homework and Study Habits

Parents and students are concerned about how much homework should be done nightly.

Teachers are encouraged not to assign regular, nightly homework.

We believe in developing, work-study habits. Most junior division students benefit from study that is spent rereading, writing and answering questions, making summaries, listing key ideas etc. This is an active process and should occur regularly.

When there is no set time to study then frequently no studying occurs. If the activity is not supervised or occurs with the distraction of the radio or television the effect is diminished.

Speak with your child's teacher if you are concerned and wish assistance.

Assignments

From time-to-time teachers expect students to complete the day-to-day work of the class at home. This is infrequent and should not become a nightly ordeal. Some students prefer to socialize their time away in class and then take the work home to complete. If this happens you should contact the school immediately.

Projects

Infrequently, students are expected to conduct research and make reports from prepared guidelines. In every case some class time is provided. However, students are expected to do some of the work at home.

SHOULD YOU FIND THAT HOMEWORK IS BECOMING A BURDEN AND YOUR CHILD IS SPENDING MORE THAN ONE HALF HOUR NIGHTLY, PLEASE CALL THE HOMEROOM TEACHER
