A lightly edited partial transcription of the Items of Local Interest column on page 1 of 
the 19 Aug 1920 issue of the Simcoe Reformer newspaper.

There passed away on Thurs., 12 Aug 1920, at his residence, 67 Howland Avenue, Toronto, a well-known Presbyterian clergy-man, Rev. Robt. Knowles, in his 85th year.

Deceased had served in the ministry for 32 years. He was born in Ireland in 1835, and came to the United States with his family when a child of five years, the parents later settling in Canada.

As young man deceased attended Simcoe High School and was a student at Knox College. His first appointment was at Ostrey, Ont., and later spent 20 years as pastor of Ramsay Church, Lanark County.

Some 20 years ago Mr. Knowles retired from active work. His wife, formerly Miss Frances Tyner of Toronto, predeceased him 12 years ago. 

Two sons, Rev. Robert E., and Wm. E., of Moose Jaw, Sask., and three daughters, Mrs. Julian Boyd of Simcoe, and the Misses Kate and Fanny of Toronto, survive.
