George Veit, a pioneer of
Middleton, passed away at the Hamilton Asylum on Monday of last week.
The deceased came to this
community about 72 years ago and settled with his parents in Middleton. When a young man he went into
the bush on Talbot Street and cleared 100 acres and lived there his
entire life.
Four years ago he had a fall in
the barn which affected his mind and last fall it became imperative to
send him to Hamilton.
He was a highly respected
citizen, and was a valuable man in the community.
While his family and near
friends have been expecting his death, the end came suddenly Monday
noon, as he sat at table having his dinner.
The
remains were brought to Delhi and the funeral took place from the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Mills, Main Street, Thursday.
He is survived by a widow, three
sons and two daughters.
