Victim of Painful Accident

Mr. Elias Boughner, County Clerk of Norfolk, was the victim Monday morning of a painful accident, as he entered the vault belonging to his office in the Court House with a lighted match in his hand.

Immediately he entered an explosion occurred, caused from gas, which in some manner had been escaping from the jet in the vault.

The veteran Clerk's face and hands were severely burned and his clothing set on fire.

Mr. Boughner succeeded in extinguishing the flames, and although suffering great pain, managed to to save the books and papers that had caught fire, many of them of great importance.

After being attended to by his physician he was taken to his home. 

His many friends in Norfolk will rejoice to know that he is resting comfortably from the after effects of the shock and burns he received.

The late Elias Boughner, County Clerk of Norfolk, notwithstanding the hopes held out for his recovery, succumbed last night, Wednesday, 28 Apr 1920, at 11:30 o'clock, from the effects of injuries received on Monday, 19 Apr 1920, by an explosion of gas as he entered the vault in his office at the Court House.

Deceased was in his 76th year. The funeral will be held from his late residence, 101 Colborne Street South, tomorrow afternoon, 30 Apr 1920, at 2:30 o'clock to Oakwood Cemetery.

The funeral of the late Elias Boughner, County Clerk of Norfolk, was held last Friday afternoon at 2.30 from the residence, 101 Colborne Street south, to Oakwood Cemetery.

The Council Council attended the funeral in a body. 
The pallbearers were all county officials: 
His Honour Judge Boles,
Sheriff  W. Tisdale,
Treasurer Jonathan Porter,
Jailor Oliver Robertson,
Deputy-Registrar Henry Johnson,
and Engineer Guy R. Marston.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. B. Farney and Rev. D. A. Moir.
