Waterford
loses one of its best-known and most respected citizens in the death
of John William Howey, which took place at his home, Leonard street,
on Monday morning, 16 February.
Deceased was born in
Waterford on 20 Feb 1863 and has been a continuous resident of the
village ever since. He was very well and favorably known throughout
the community.
For the past four years he
had been in ill health and for a week pior to his death was confined
to his bed.
He was for many years a
member of Waterford I.O.O.F. lodge and a member of the Baptist
Church.
Besides his sorrowing widow,
he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Harry A. Weston of Simcoe, one son,
Arthur of Brantford,; also four sisters and two brothers: Mrs.
Albert McCarey, Mrs. Albert Squires, Mrs. Robert Livsey and Mrs.
Patrick McCarey, all of Waterford; Jonas of Simcoe and David of
Waterford.
The funeral service was held
at his late home on Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, with Rev.
J. D. MacLachlan, assisted by Rev. H. Wilkins, in charge. Interment
was made in Greenwood Cemetery.
