The Late Mr. Alex. Hutchinson

Mr. Alexander Hutchinson died at his home in Port Rowan on Saturday evening, 17 December, after a somewhat prolonged illness.

The late Mr. Hutchinson was born in the County of Autrum, in Ireland, in the year 1837, and came to this country as a boy, settling in the Township of Walsingham sixty-five years ago.

He was one of the pioneers of the township, and after clearing his farm on the 8th concession became one of its most prominent men.

He married Miss Ann Craig forty-four years ago, and his widow and a large family of five daughters and three sons survive him. The daughters are Mrs. Wm. Franklin of North Dakota; Mrs. S. Smith and Mrs. John Smith of Port Rowan, Mrs. C. H. Pierce of Hespeler, and Miss Delia Hutchinson of Victoria Hospital, London. The sons are R. A. Hutchinson, B.A., Inspector of Public Schools of North Ontario County; Dr. W. G. Hutchinson, Port Rowan, and James Hutchinson who lives on the old farm.

Two years ago Mr. Hutchinson retired from active live and moved to Port Rowan. He was a lifelong Conservative and a Methodist. He was a kind and indulgent father, a good neighbor and was very highly respected by all who knew him.

The funeral on Tuesday afternoon was largely attended, the service being held in the Methodist church and conducted by the Rev. J. Schofield, the burial being in the cemetery at Walsingham Centre. The pallbearers were the deceased's sons and sons in law.
