Succumbing to
an attack of influenza and its subsequent complications, Mrs. Walter
Charles McCall died on Friday, May 21, at the home of her son, Clayton
Jackson, Edmonton, Alberta. Her husband died just ten years ago, plus
a day, on Mar 23, 1927.
Mrs. McCall was born Margaret Smith (Madge) Ferguson, daughter of
the late Alexander Ferguson, for many years stationmaster at the Air
Line depot, Simcoe, and Mrs. Ferguson, and in Simcoe she spent her
entire adult life up to three years ago, when she removed to Edmonton
to live with her son.
In her seventy-fifth year, deceased has been in poor healt of late
months. During her residence in Simcoe she was a member of Trinity
Anglican Church.
She was twice married, first to Charles
Jackson, a brother of Ernest H. Jackson and son of the late George
Jackson, contractor, and he died about fifty years ago. Later she
married Mr. McCall, a member of the Canadian Voyageurs who went up the
Nile to the relief of General George Gordon in 1884, and who for a
long period was Simcoe's Town Clerk.
Mrs. McCall is survived by her only son Clayton; two brothers, Dan
Ferguson of Memphis, Tenn., and Alexander Ferguson of Winnipeg; one
sister, Mrs. W. Y. Wallace of Simcoe; and four grandchildren of
Edmonton.
Two sisters predeceased her, Mrs. Watson, who died in Granby,
Quebec, in 1921, and Mrs. Frank Reid, whose death occurred in 1924.
Mr. F. M. Reid, Simcoe, and Wm. A. Wallace, now in California, are
nephews.
The last rites were held on Tuesday afternoon, with burial being
made in Edmonton Cemetery.
